Some functions, appearances and operations can be customised by editing 'General settings'.
The settings are grouped under various headings depending on where in the system the settings apply . . eg General/overall settings, Main (the default/main display page), Add/edit (when adding or Editing a database item), Membership/Products (depending on what type of database is in use), and Alphabetical where all the settings, irrespective of their category, are listed alphabetically.
Each setting can be Edited (click the green tick) or deleted (click red cross). Generally it would be unnecessary to delete a setting.
New settings can be created in the event of a system update where new functionality may require additional settings.
